Health and medical care
at the Priory Residential Care Home, Devon.
.............................................................................
The Priory is served by the Coleridge Medical Centre in Ottery St Mary which is modern and well staffed. The doctors have developed a special relationship with our residents and an understanding of the particular needs of each one.
Each resident is entitled to choose their own GP and may indeed have been a patient of that GP for some years. A resident’s freedom of choice, privacy and dignity are respected at all times and records are confidential.
The health and well-being of our residents is our major concern and we do not hesitate to call in a doctor or visit the medical centre with a resident when there are concerns for their health. When necessary the District Nurse will call. We make appointments with the dentist, optician or other health professionals as required and accompany the resident to these appointments if necessary. The chiropodist calls regularly as does the hairdresser.
We believe that a healthy diet is as important for elderly people as it is for the young, hence our emphasis on home cooked meals using locally sourced fresh food. We are happy to cater for special diets. Our programme of activities and outings also offers entertainment and stimulation and helps to promote good health.
