Activities and entertainment
at the Priory Residential Care Home, Devon
.............................................................................
The move to a care home is seldom easy. It may come as a welcome relief to some, to others it may feel like giving in to age and failing health. Our aim at The Priory is to make life as comfortable and as much like home as possible. We hope that new residents will make friends and come to enjoy being part of a small community.
We provide a range of activities designed to interest and stimulate our residents and we have a member of staff employed specifically to organise and carry out the activities programme. Activities include:
- Visiting entertainers
- Armchair ball games and gentle exercises
- Flower arranging
- Planting up summer hanging baskets
- Reminiscence and ‘Life History’ books
- Quizzes
- Craft and cooking activities
- Singing
- Visits from the Travelling Library
- Visits from local school children
Regular supervised outings are arranged. We are not short of places to visit and a trip out, including tea, is always popular. Sidmouth, Otterton Mill and Beer are only fifteen minutes away and there are numerous other places to visit close by.
Residents are encouraged to join in but we understand that ‘joining in’ is not for everyone and some prefer to sit quietly and watch what is going on. Everyone is free to choose how they spend their day.
On sunny days it is possible for residents to sit outside in the courtyard or on the patio at the back of the house. If they feel like doing a bit of weeding or planting there is usually some to be done.
